Graphiti - Course in Animation Technology (G-CAT)
G-CAT Master

A Post Graduate certificate course designed specifically for Art Graduates who have completed their education in Fine Arts, Commercial or Applied Art or any equivalent course of study.

Learning objective of the Course
After completion of the course, the student would be able to visualize and create animation of professional quality and be able to participate in the creative processes of any animation production. G-CAT Masters program is designed to provide a supplementary value to the art graduates on the skills and creativity they already have and enhance their skills and focus their creativity in specific stages of animation production. The graduating students should join animation studios with a good understanding of the work culture and ethos of a typical animation studio and take up challenging work roles.

Emphasis during the course:

Scheduled Batch start date: 3rd week of July 2008

Duration: 12 months

Eligibility: The G-CAT Masters course is open only to the Graduates of Art colleges with a Degree/Diploma in Applied/Fine Art or Equivalent.

Entry Criteria:
Art Portfolio consisting of sketches and drawings preferably life study

            1. Statement of Purpose.
            2. Graphiti Entry Test (GET)
            3. Short Film (Animation or Live) - Optional

The course is divided in 3 Terms:
Foundation
Animation Film Design
Animation Film Pre-Production


Foundation Term (4 months)
Objective: To train the students on fundamentals of design and visualization and take them through a life cycle of animation production, so as to help them select an area of specialization in animation

The foundation term is designed to give the students the necessary fundamentals required by an animation professional. The students are taken through a series of design and visualization sessions, including film study, to improve their creative aptitude and understanding of the medium. The students will be given training on drawing and sketching techniques. This is followed by an Intermediate level training of the Life cycle of Animation, taking the students through the various stages of Animation production. This is followed by another counseling session where the student is assisted by us to choose an area of specialization.

Learning outcome: At the end of this term, the student will be able to choose an area of specialization that he / she wants to pursue. The student will have an Intermediate level knowledge of 3D animation tools in all areas of specialization.


Animation Film Design (6 months)
Objective: To train the students to become film designers and Concept Artists.

Focus is on the core skill. The learning will focus more on the creative processes involved in the animation production like Character design, Layouts, storyboards and concept art. The outcome of this term would be artists who drive the art and concept creation on an animation film.

The main topics that will be learnt during this term will be Script, Character design & Modeling, Layout & Modeling, Look development, Storyboard, Animatics (Storyboard pro), Making a Bible

Learning Outcomes: At the end of the specialization term, the student will be able to demonstrate expertise in his / her area of specialization. The student is more focused and ready to work in a production environment.


Animation Film Pre-Production (2 months)
Objective: To make the students ready-to-work professionals for an Animation studio.

During this term the students go through designing a film based on a style. They will explore and create an individual style of film making

Learning Outcome:At the end of the term the students will create Bibles with the importance on the styling and look. These bibles will the portfolio of the students
